and the winner is…

Asia Pietrzyk for Variety

My latest work for Variety magazine. I was asked to illustrate for a story that explains the major themes in this year's Oscar race, which are diversity in potential nominees unlike last year's #OscarsSoWhite nominees. I ended up with two ideas, eventually the AD Chuck Kerr decided to move forward with the one above.
My second idea (below) was referring to this great video by Bård Edlund showing the lack of diversity in the previous years in interesting way.

Asia for the goodnight society

Asia Pietrzyk for The Goodnight Society

Here is my little collaboration with The Goodnight Society, an Australian sleepwear label whos organic cotton pyjamas are made in a small family-owned, certified sweatshop free factory in New Delhi. My two illustrations (turned into patterns) and California lettering can be found in their new collection printed on comfy shorts and pants. You can purchase them here and then enjoy a crazy pyjama party or a nice & cozy sleep.

Play Katch!

AsiaPietrzyk for Dali Katch

This project was super fun. I had the pleasure to team up with Dali (Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries), a Danish manufacturer of high-end loudspeakers. I was asked to take part in their campaign promoting their new product, Dali Katch, a portable Bluetooth wireless speaker. My job was to create illustrations that would be a visual representation of the music I love. I hit upon an idea to create three album covers of artists that are important to me for many reasons. Please check the official Dali Katch tumblr and instagram to have a look at other artists’ musical taste too.

It’s very difficult to select my number one musical artist but if I had to I would pick Kate Bush. Her incredible talent won my heart from the beginning. I come back to the Hounds Of Love album at least once a month and each time I fall in love with the music again.I have so much respect for this uber-talented lady!

Tango In The Night is my favourite album of Fleetwood Mac. What I love about this band is that each member truly contributes to the music. I’ve always admired how personal and honest they are in their lyrics. The music is nothing but a feast for the ears. Probably one of the best 80’s soft rocks albums, ever.

Jean Michel Jarre’s album Oxygen takes me back to my early childhood memory. I am neither a big fan nor an expert in electronic music, however I could listen to Oxygen the whole day. This album is so addictive!

Passion

AsiaPietrzyk

I made these cute whimsical illustrations for the last issue of Mindful magazine. I had the pleasure to illustrate an article by  about passion. From Mindful magazine sneak peek: [passion] can pull us onto the right path and show us what we really need, but first we have to lay the ground for passion to grow.

Innocent Sorcerers

Asia Pietrzyk

This project is my tribute to one of the greatest European film directors Andrzej Wajda who passed away in October 2016 in age of 90. I created four illustrations inspired by one of Andrzej Wajda’s early movies “Niewinni czarodzieje” (Innocent Sorcerers) from 1960 and the famous Polish School of Posters.

The movie tells a story about a young man (Bazyli) and woman (Pelagia) who without knowing each other spent the whole night together over long conversations and silly games. Both of them try playing being not serious, rather flirty and playful however after a few hours they are deeply fascinated by each other. Both Bazyli and Pelagia thought keep up appearances and may lose the chance for true love.

Innocent Sorcerers is one of the early Andrzej Wajda’s films. Wajda invited to this project not only the most talented young Polish actors by that time, but also his close friends, ex. Roman Polański and two great Polish jazz composers Krzysztof Komeda and Andrzej Trzaskowski.

Everything is possible

AsiaPietrzyk

I am so happy to announce that this month in Sweden has been published the book Allt är möjligt (Everything is possible) illustrated by me. The author of the book is Azusa Itagaki, my good friend, artist and a wonderful yoga teacher. The idea for this book was Azusa’s beautiful project that she has been working on in Stockholm for about two years. Sagoyoga, the name of the project, is a workshop where kids yoga meets Japanese traditional story telling. Allt är möjligt is a wonderful journey for both parents and children where they activate not only their bodies but also their minds and imagination. The book has been published by Vombat Förlag and it’s available in Swedish here or here.

Sometimes it’s good to go back to old inspirations. One can never have too much of lips, eyes and fashion.
